Let me just start off by saying, when it comes to the bars in Tampa, you’re going to get a totally different vibe depending on where you go out. As a local, I love that there’s a spot for every kind of night. Whether you’re in the mood for rooftop cocktails with skyline views, a quirky neighborhood dive, or a wild night that you may only half remember, Tampa’s got you covered.

Here’s a quick run down for what you can expect: Downtown Tampa is sleek and a little boujie—think vibey (expensive) bars and craft cocktails. Seminole Heights is the spot for hip, artsy bars with unique drinks and a laid-back crowd. Ybor City? Well, that’s where things get a little rowdy—historic charm by day, party central by night. And if you head to SoHo, just be ready for a scene straight out of a college party, complete with crowded bars and cheap drinks.

No matter what kind of night you’re looking for, this list has the best bars in Tampa to check out!

Best Bars in Downtown Tampa

1. CW’s Gin Joint

CW’s Gin Joint is a Tampa classic, and it’s got that old-school charm that makes you want to settle in and sip something fancy. This isn’t the place for a quick drink before bouncing to the next bar—these cocktails are meant to be enjoyed. With over 65 varieties of gin (plus plenty of whiskey and rum), there’s something for every spirit lover.

If you’re feeling snacky, their food menu is just as impressive. I wasn’t super hungry when I went, but I did try the fried artichoke with caviar remoulade and the grilled oysters, and both were great. Add in live jazz Thursday through Saturday, plus an incredible pianist, and you’ve got the perfect vibey night.

This is one of the best date night spots in Tampa!

2. Beacon

Sitting pretty on top of the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street, Beacon is the rooftop bar you need to visit if you love a killer view. It’s the highest rooftop in Tampa, so you get an insane panoramic look at the city and the bay—especially at sunset.

The cocktails here are just as good as the views. I had the “Dastardly Devil,” which is a smoky, spicy, slightly sweet mix of Rosaluna Mezcal, Thai chili Aperol, lime, peach, and chili bitters. Trust me, it’s dangerously good.

3. The Punch Room and Arts Club at The Tampa EDITION

The Tampa EDITION has quickly become one of the city’s hottest spots, and The Punch Room is a standout. It’s the first punch room in North America, serving up gorgeous, Caribbean- and Gulf-inspired cocktails in an ultra-stylish setting. If two or more people order the same drink, it’s served in an antique punch bowl tableside, which makes for a super fun experience. I went for the Tampa Punch (because mezcal, obviously), and it did not disappoint.

Reservations are required for The Punch Room. But if you don’t plan ahead, you can always try to grab a spot at the Arts Club across the hall. While reservations are recommended there too, they’re not required. It’s very vibey with the famous red disco ball room. Either way, The Tampa EDITION is a must-visit if you’re looking for a high-end, boujie night out.

4. 511 Franklin

If you’re over 23 and tired of feeling like the oldest one at the bar, 511 Franklin may just be your favorite bar in Tampa.

The cocktails here are great. Their espresso martini, hilariously named “I Ain’t F*ckin Leavin’,” is on tap and made with Buddy Brew espresso, so you know it’s going to hit just right. Another favorite? “Tattooed Hot Moms,” a mezcal cocktail with the perfect balance of smoky and smooth. And if you’re looking for a solid happy hour, you’re in luck—drinks are 50% off, making this spot even more dangerous (in the best way possible).

5. American Social

American Social is one of the best bars in Tampa if you want to sip a drink with a waterfront view! Sitting right on the Hillsborough River, this massive sports bar has four full-service bars, an award-winning menu, and a killer atmosphere. Whether you’re catching the big game, hanging out for happy hour (Monday-Friday, 4-7 PM), or going all out at their weekend brunch, this place is always buzzing.

They also have locations in Orlando and Miami!

6. Gen X

If you grew up in the ‘80s or ‘90s, run—don’t walk—to GenX Tavern. This place is pure nostalgia overload in the best way. There’s a back room that looks exactly like your childhood bedroom, complete with comfy couches, a wall of VHS tapes, old board games, lava lamps, and random trinkets that’ll have you reminiscing about your Lisa Frank folders and Tamagotchi.

The real showstopper, though? The massive locker mural that’s packed with every throwback reference you can think of—Nintendo Game Boys, Fresh Prince graffiti, and even an old-school Tampa Bay Buccaneers logo.

And the drinks? Absolute gold. They nailed the theme with cocktails like the Strawberry Starburst, Gusher, and the Adult Capri Sun (which comes in three flavors!). If you’re feeling snacky, grab a Happy Gilmore wedge salad or some Dunkaroos for dessert—because why not fully embrace the nostalgia?

Easily one of the most fun bars in Tampa!

7. M. Bird

M. Bird is a rooftop bar that has some of the best views of the Hillsborough River and downtown Tampa, making it the perfect spot to sip a cocktail while soaking it all in!

Speaking of cocktails, they do not mess around here. I don’t usually go for rum drinks, but their Billy Ocean Water is an absolute game-changer. It’s a lime and coconut dream that’s just as delicious as it is pretty.

They also keep the energy high with DJs on Thursday and Friday nights, all day Saturday, and from 3-6 PM on Sundays—so whether you’re celebrating a birthday, kicking off a bachelorette weekend in Tampa, or just living your best life, M. Bird is always a good time.

8. Morgan’s Cove

If you’ve ever wanted to step straight into a pirate’s secret hideout, head to Morgan’s Cove! Tucked behind a wooden door with a glowing red light, this speakeasy feels like a 17th-century tavern where Henry Morgan himself might’ve thrown back a few drinks.

Whether you’re still riding the high from Tampa’s Gasparilla Festival or just looking for a bar with some serious character, this place delivers. It’s all about rum, whiskey, and a good old-fashioned swashbuckling vibe.

No reservations here—it’s walk-in only, so get there early if you want a prime spot to sip strong drinks, swap stories, and soak in the pirate lore.

9. The Lounge at Meat Market

If you’re looking for a night out that feels like a night out, The Lounge at Meat Market is the place to be. By day, Meat Market is one of Tampa’s top restaurants, but once the sun sets, The Lounge turns into a whole vibe.

With a resident DJ, live music performances, and a chic, upscale atmosphere, it’s the kind of place where you’ll want to dress up a little and sip on a handcrafted cocktail—or go all in with bottle service for the full experience.

10. Jekyll

Jekyll is one of Tampa’s speakeasies, and they really commit to the theme. First, you need a reservation. Then, to get in, you have to place a secret bagel order at Sesame. (Yes, seriously.) Once you’re in, the fun really begins.

Their cocktail menu reads like a novel, with each drink telling its own little story. And the presentation is a work of art in itself. Drinks here are on the pricier side (around $30 each), but the experience is really unique.

That said, I personally prefer the cocktails at some of Tampa’s other speakeasies, but if you love creative drinks and a little mystery, Jekyll is still a must-visit.

Best Bars in Seminole Heights

11. Mandarin Heights

Mandarin Heights is such a vibe. Hands down my favorite bar in Seminole Heights! From the mid-century modern lounge aesthetic to the insanely creative cocktails, everything about this place just makes me happy.

They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and if you don’t see a drink on the menu that speaks to you, the bartenders will whip up something exactly to your taste. Oh, and don’t forget to grab a pic at their ever-changing photo op before you leave!

If you find yourself in St. Pete, check out their sister bar, Mandarin Hide—it’s one of the best bars in downtown St. Pete and totally gives off speakeasy vibes.

12. Velvet Gypsy

Velvet Gypsy fits right in with Seminole Heights’ quirky, eclectic energy. Depending on the day, you’ll find live music, a DJ, or even a watch party for your favorite sports teams. They even host Soul Market on the last Sunday of each month, featuring local crafters and vendors!

Their cocktail list is so fun, and if you’re not drinking, they also have some solid mocktails. The outdoor patio is perfect for hanging out, with games like Jenga and cornhole, plus—bonus points—they’re pet-friendly!

Make sure to check out their daily specials and hit up happy hour Monday-Friday from 6-8 PM.

Best Bars in SoHo Tampa

13. MacDinton’s

If you’ve been out in SoHo, you know MacDinton’s is a staple. It’s one of the most popular bars in the area, drawing both locals and tourists for its high-energy, clubby atmosphere and fun events like watch parties, themed nights, and holiday bashes.

Their DJs always keep the party going, and they often have live entertainment too. The place is huge, with both indoor and outdoor spaces, but it still packs out on the weekends. They also offer VIP tables and bottle service, and if you’re day drinking, you can grab a bite from their pub menu—including some classic Irish dishes!

14. Bar HWRD

Bar HWRD calls itself “your elevated sports bar experience,” and they definitely deliver. Whether you’re catching the game on one of their three HD LED walls or hitting the dance floor for a late-night party, this spot knows how to bring the energy.

They’re open Wednesday through Sunday, with events and specials happening every night. Sundays are the move if you’re a football fan—they do a watch party with $5 Tito’s and $3 High Noons. The outdoor patio is also a fun hangout, complete with giant Jenga and Connect Four to keep things interesting.

15. SoHo Saloon

If you’re looking for a spot to go hard any night of the week, SoHo Saloon has you covered. This country-themed bar is open 7 days a week until 3 AM, making it a prime stop for late-night antics. And while the theme is country, the playlist is all over the place—so don’t worry if you’re not into twang.

Inside, you’ll find pool tables and darts, while their huge outdoor patio is perfect for hanging out. They also have daily specials, including multiple hospitality nights where drinks are 50% off.

16. Green Lemon

Green Lemon isn’t just about Taco Tuesday—this place keeps the energy high all weekend long. Their tacos and guac? Absolute fire. Start the night here with modern Mexican bites before working your way up to tequila shots and top-tier margs. And if you’re like me, swap the tequila for mezcal.

They have a DJ every single day, and obviously, you have to grab a pic at their iconic photo wall.

Best Bars in Ybor

17. Tangra

If you’re looking for a high-energy night out in Ybor City, Tangra is the move. This place goes off with a mix of EDM, Latin, and Top 40, keeping the party going late into the night.

It’s got three levels—a main club, a lounge, and a rooftop—so whether you’re in the mood to dance, chill, or sip cocktails with a view, you’ve got options. No matter what kind of vibe you’re after, Tangra brings it.

Ybor City is home to one of the infamous Coyote Ugly bars, and if you’re in the mood for bartop dancing, loud music, and an all-around wild time, this place delivers.

They’ve got weekly specials to keep things interesting—think discounted fishbowls on Thursdays and free beer on Tuesdays (yes, you read that right). It’s open until 3 AM, so if you’re down for a rowdy night in Ybor, this spot is a must.

19. The Ritz

Whether you’re catching a concert, a special event, or vibing at one of their “takeover” nightclub events, The Ritz is the perfect place to soak up some serious energy.

Tickets are required for most events, so be sure to grab them online before you head over. Mischief Mondays has BOGO bottle specials and $5 Jameson and Tito’s drinks, while Pound Fridays brings in EDM artists for a killer time. If you’re all about that DJ life, a night out here is definitely one of the best things to do in Ybor.

Looking for a local craft cocktail spot with some seriously good vibes? Head over to Copper Shaker—this place is a total must-try in Ybor City. Oh, and if you’re in St. Pete, they’ve got a location there, too, which is one of my faves!

This place is perfect for gathering with your squad and trying out all kinds of unique drinks. If you’re into something a little bold, try The Grind, which has an espresso-infused twist, or go for Smokestack, a smooth rye whiskey cocktail. Their beer and wine list is no slouch either.

Don’t forget about their happy hour—every day until 7 PM, you can score $6 drinks and some delish food specials.
