Colombia’s diverse geography results in a variety of climates across different regions! So you can be rocking a swimsuit in Cartagena and then head to Bogota and need pants and a jacket. Colombia experiences the peak of its dry season in July which makes it an excellent time to explore the country’s picturesque landscapes and vibrant cities.

Andean Region
Cities like Bogota and Medellin have pleasant temperatures during the day, typically ranging from 57°F to 73°F (14°C to 23°C). The nights can be cooler, with temperatures dropping to around 46°F to 57°F (8°C to 14°C). Packing layers is a must! During our trip, Bogota was definitely the coolest and a jacket was necessary for the evenings at the very least.
The dry weather allows for clear skies and better visibility, making it an ideal time to explore the region’s charming colonial towns, verdant valleys, and cloud-capped mountains.
Caribbean Coast
Coastal cities such as Cartagena and Santa Marta experience a tropical climate, offering warm temperatures during July. Daytime temperatures range from 82°F to 90°F (28°C to 32°C). They provide the perfect backdrop for sunbathing and enjoying water activities.
Humidity levels are higher along the coast, so staying hydrated and wearing light, breathable clothing is essential. I felt Cartagena was even more humid than Florida!
Amazon Rainforest
The Amazon region experiences consistent rainfall throughout the year, including July. While it might not be the driest time to visit, the lush greenery and wildlife sightings make it a unique and adventurous experience. You’re going to want to come prepared with waterproof gear and insect repellent to explore the Amazon rainforest comfortably.

Considerations for Visiting Colombia in July:
- Crowds and costs— As a peak travel month, popular tourist destinations may experience larger crowds, and prices for accommodations and tours may be higher than in the off-season. However, we were still able to find times of the day for activities that were less crowded!
- Weather variability— While many regions experience pleasant weather, the Amazon region and parts of the Pacific coast can be wetter, impacting certain outdoor activities.
- Advance planning— Due to the popularity of festivals and events, planning and booking in advance are essential to secure preferred accommodations and activities. We planned our trip just a few weeks in advance and unfortunately, many of our first choices for accommodations were booked up, and some of the activities we really wanted to do weren’t available.
- You can use Booking.com and Viator.com to plan accommodations and activities in advance because most hotels and tours through here allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before!
