This stop was actually the last leg of our week-long road trip, through Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama. And it was definitely the most relaxing. Alabama showed me that Florida isn’t the only state with beautiful white sand beaches!

Things to Do in Orange Beach
1. Explore Gulf State Park
Gulf State Park was hands-down one of my favorite things to do in Orange Beach! It has a unique beach experience with 28 miles of paved trails and boardwalks, including the scenic Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail complex. We rented bikes from Infinity Bicycles to explore the area, which was perfect for safe, road-free riding (ideal for nervous cyclists like me!).
Check here to read about all of the other trails you can explore at Gulf State Park.
I loved bike riding here so much, I came home and bought a bike, and now am a frequent rider of the Pinellas Trail in Dunedin!
2. The Wharf
The Wharf is a total playground for all ages! You’ve got shopping, a marina, mouthwatering restaurants, and even concerts by big names like Luke Bryan. And for a little extra fun? Try the Ferris wheel, mini golf, laser tag, or escape room!
We stopped by during the Orange Beach Seafood Festival and Car Show, but here’s a tip: head there at night for the Spectra Laser Light Experience. This free nightly show transforms Main Street with pulsing lights and music, adding an extra spark to the evening!
3. Get Out on a boat
This is unfortunately something we didn’t have the chance to do ourselves, and some weren’t yet open for the season. However, all three of these companies came highly recommended!
For a fun, educational day on the water with a side of dolphin spotting, check out Fun Boat Dolphin Cruises! This two-hour adventure offers daytime and sunset cruises perfect for families. Kids especially love the hands-on encounter with local sea creatures, where they can hold, touch, and learn all about them!
One of my favorite things to do in Clearwater Beach, as well as St. Pete Beach, is now offered in Orange Beach! You can take a 90-minute sunset tiki cruise around Orange Beach.
Finally, you can kick back on a sailboat at sunset. Orange Beach Sunset Sailing Cruise is another thing to do in Orange Beach that comes highly recommended.
Be sure to book your tours in advance, especially during the busy season.
4. RELAX
I’m usually all about squeezing in every adventure possible, but sometimes, it’s worth slowing down to really savor the moment. We loved hanging out by the pool at the Holiday Inn Express Orange Beach—it was the perfect spot to unwind, with the beach just steps away.
So while you’re here, take a breather, let go of the to-do list, and soak up some well-deserved relaxation.
5. Grab Coffee From The Southern Grind
Checking out the local coffee scene is always one of my favorite things to do when I’m exploring a new city! And The Southern Grind is a must-visit in Orange Beach if you’re craving caffeine and coastal charm!
This adorable, beachy cafe serves delicious coffee (I couldn’t pick just one, so I tried both a French vanilla cappuccino and a white chocolate caramel macchiato!) and offers breakfast options and gelato too.
Plus, it doubles as a boutique with coastal-inspired jewelry, home décor, and local art. It’s the perfect spot to relax, refuel, and browse unique finds—all in one place!
6. Try a Bushwacker
When in Orange Beach, you have to try a Bushwacker—it’s a local favorite for a reason! We stopped by Tacky Jacks, where the colorful duct tape-covered walls set the fun, laid-back vibe. This place is famous for its Bushwackers, a boozy milkshake topped with a 151 float.
Trust me, you won’t regret trying one! With several locations along the water, the views are as fun as the drinks. We went to the location across the street from Big Beach Brewing Co. which is located in Gulf Shores, but Orange Beach does have its own Tacky Jacks as well.
7. Check Out the Local Beer Scene
If you’re a fan of craft beer, Big Beach Brewing in Gulf Shores is a must-visit! The space has a charming brick-and-open layout, perfect for sipping on a variety of house-brewed beers, from lagers to sours.
The Fruiturama sour was so refreshing, with its perfect balance of fruit and cheesecake flavor! With plenty of outdoor seating and amazing Alabama weather, it’s the perfect spot to relax and sample some local brews!
8. Play at Lulu’s
Lulu’s is the ultimate family-friendly spot in Gulf Shores, offering everything from delicious food and drinks to an arcade and a three-story climbing apparatus!
I had a blast sipping on a mango piña colada with my toes in the sand before heading to the arcade to beat Remi at basketball. With live music every night and its prime location near Big Beach Brewing and Tacky Jacks, you can easily make an afternoon or evening out of hitting all the best spots!
9. Don’t Miss the Beach Bars
I know I’ve already mentioned a few great beach bars around Orange Beach, but trust me—there are a couple more you can’t miss! The Gulf is perfect for enjoying a sunset with a refreshing mojito, while The Hangout offers everything from a daiquiri bar to live music and beach access.
Both spots bring a fun, laid-back atmosphere where you can sip cocktails and soak in the views. If you’re looking for the ultimate beach bar experience, these should definitely be on your list!
10. Go Paddleboarding
For a super fun way to explore the waters of Orange Beach, try out this Orange Beach tower paddle board rental with delivery and pickup! They’ll drop off a high-quality inflatable paddleboard right to your location, so you can enjoy a peaceful paddle through the beautiful Gulf Coast waters without the hassle of transporting gear.
Where to Stay in Orange Beach, Alabama
If you’re looking for a place that checks all the boxes, Holiday Inn Express Orange Beach is where it’s at! The location is perfect—right on the beach, and close to everything you’ll want to do. The heated pool and jacuzzi were our go-to spots, especially at sunset. Oh, and the free hot breakfast? Total win, especially when you’re ready to fuel up before a day of adventure! Also, since it’s an IHG hotel, you can book with points.
If you’re craving a splash of luxury, check out Perdido Beach Resort for incredible Gulf views and a truly elevated experience.
