When is the Best Time to Visit Clearwater Beach?
If you prefer to visit in the off-season when things slow down and hotels are typically cheaper, I suggest coming end of August through October. The water is still warm, and the beach has died down quite a bit since the kids are back in school.
March is pretty crazy for spring break and spring training. This is one of my top spring break destinations in Florida. Hotel rates skyrocket and the beach traffic is pretty horrid. Summer months are busy but not as bad as March.
Things to Do in Clearwater Beach
1. Boat Tour
When it comes to boat tours in Clearwater Beach, there’s something for everyone! Whether you’re looking for a scenic sunset cruise, dolphin sightings, or an all-out adventure on a pirate ship, Clearwater’s options are endless!
One of my favorites is an adults-only experience with Cruisin’ Tikis! Picture yourself gliding along the water on a 21+ floating tiki bar—fun and relaxation all in one!
2. Boat Rental
For an unforgettable day on the water, A Boat Day is the ultimate Clearwater Beach experience! Perfect for groups or bachelorette parties, they offer several boat rental options, including gunships which are fully equipped with waterslides. And, let’s be real, what’s a boat day without one?
You can customize your day by choosing to island hop, snorkel, go shelling, or simply cruise around looking for dolphins. This rental experience gives you exclusive use of the boat, so you and your friends or family can enjoy a private, memorable day on the Gulf.
3. Pier 60
Pier 60 is one of the most iconic things to do in Clearwater Beach! Whether you’re soaking up the sun during the day or enjoying the Sunset Celebration in the evening, it should be on your list.
During the day and into the evening, there are performers of all kinds, along with crafters, face painters, and musicians— not to mention the most beautiful, untainted views of the sunset. It’s the perfect place to stroll, people-watch, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of Clearwater Beach.
4. Bar Hop
Clearwater Beach has a bar for every vibe, whether you’re after a classy martini or a beachy piña colada with a view. The rooftop options are especially fun—Jimmy’s on the Edge offers sweeping Gulf views and free sunset shots, as do its sister spots Jimmy’s Fish House and Crow’s Nest. Perfect for hopping around, each spot brings a unique mix of beachy atmosphere and drink options.
Catch a sunset, grab a cocktail, and enjoy the easy-going Clearwater beach scene.
Check out my full list of fun Clearwater Beach bars! There are even some Clearwater breweries you can pop into if that’s more your vibe!
5. Scavenger Hunt
I created this adults-only scavenger hunt for my 30th birthday, and it was so much fun! Perfect for bachelorette parties, birthdays, and spring break, this hunt is filled with playful challenges and hilarious tasks that keep things exciting.
It’s the best way to add a little more adventure to your Clearwater Beach day!
6. Jet Ski
Ready for some adrenaline on the water? Clearwater Beach has plenty of options for jet ski rentals! If you want to feel the wind in your hair, Shephard’s has rentals at Makin’ Waves and offers the largest free-riding area on the beach—plus, they’ll give you $10 off if you rent before noon.
For a more guided experience, check out H20 Jet Ski Rentals for an awesome tour of the intercoastal and Gulf! This rental is more on North Beach in the area where Pier 60 is located.
For any jet ski rental, if you plan to be the driver, you must have a boating license or get a temporary boat license (typically available for a small fee at the rental location) if you were born on or after Jan 1, 1988.
7. Paddleboard or Kayak
If you’re looking to explore the waters of Clearwater Beach at a slower pace, paddleboarding or kayaking is one of my favorite things to do in Clearwater Beach!
Divine Sunshine Kayak and Paddle offers eco-tours, including sunset excursions, where they transport you to your launch spot. Want to go at your own pace? Rent a paddleboard or kayak for the day, and they’ll deliver it right to you.
Makin’ Waves, behind Shephard’s, also has rentals for one to three hours, letting you explore the Gulf and even encounter dolphins along the way! For a more unique experience, Paddle Out Adventures takes you to secluded spots by pontoon boat!
8. Parasail
Parasailing in Clearwater Beach gives you a unique bird’s-eye view of the Gulf! Popular spots like BouYah Watersports and Chute ‘Em Up Parasail offer the experience for about $80.
Both of these locations are close to Pier 60. Keep an eye out for discounts in local hotel coupon books to save a little!
9. Go Fishing
If you’re ready to cast a line, Clearwater Beach has plenty of fishing options! Head to Pier 60, where you don’t need a fishing license—just grab a $20 permit that includes a pole, bait, and everything else you need.
For deep-sea fishing, options like Double Eagle and Queen Fleet offer larger boats, with prices ranging from $32 to $87 per person, depending on the trip. If you want a more private experience, charter boats like Above Average Fishing or Charter Boat Two C’s II offer half-day trips starting around $500 for up to six people.
Some charters (Above Average Fishing for sure— maybe some of the others) even offer to fillet and clean whatever you catch for you if you plan to keep it. A lot of local restaurants will even prepare the fish how you like for a fee.
10. Clearwater Marine Aquarium
Clearwater Marine Aquarium is the perfect activity for marine lovers and fans of Dolphin Tale. Home to Winter and Hope—the film’s stars—this aquarium’s mission is all about rescue, rehab, and release, so it’s a bit more low-key and focused on conservation than your typical aquarium.
Inside, you’ll find informative exhibits and interactive experiences that highlight marine rescue work. It’s the perfect rainy day activity in Clearwater Beach!
On clear days, you can hop on the Sea Life Safari Boat Tour, a 90-minute trip where you’ll learn about local sea life up close—perfect for a blend of education and adventure.

Set sail on a dinner cruise in Clearwater Beach for a dining experience with a view! The Calypso Buffet Cruise offers both daytime and evening options, with a tropical buffet, drinks included (yes, that means rum punch!), and lively narration or DJ entertainment.
For a more upscale experience, the Yacht StarShip Dinner Cruise features a seafood buffet with an open bar and even more fun tunes to keep the vibe going. For a more laid-back option, the Starlite Dinner Cruise offers both a dining experience (optional) and a full bar, making it perfect if you want to enjoy the sunset without the full dining commitment.
All cruises come with gorgeous Gulf views—just pick your vibe!
12. Mini Golf
Captain Bligh’s Landing Mini-Golf is the perfect family-friendly activity! This 18-hole course is packed with caves, waterfalls, and a giant pirate ship that will make your game extra adventurous.
There’s even a game room and arcade to enjoy. The course is open seven days a week!
13. Sand Key Park
For a more laid-back beach day, Sand Key Park is a hidden gem. Enjoy the sandy shoreline with cabanas for shade and bathhouses for convenience. Once you’ve soaked up the sun, head to the park for a picnic by the grills, a relaxing stroll in the dog park, or rent a kayak or bike to explore.
With fewer crowds than Clearwater Beach, this is your spot for a nature-filled escape.
14. Enjoy The Fresh Catch
There are so many amazing restaurants in Clearwater Beach full of fresh and delicious seafood! You’ll find plenty of fresh catches to indulge in, with the area known for its grouper and snapper.
Frenchy’s serves up a delicious grouper sandwich, while Crabby’s Dockside is the place to go for royal red shrimp and crab legs. If you’re in the mood for something different, SHOR American Seafood Grill offers a flavorful redfish option. From casual bites to more refined dining, there’s something for every seafood craving!
15. Watch One of the Famous Clearwater Beach Sunsets
One of the best parts of Clearwater Beach is catching a sunset! Whether you’re lounging on the sand, enjoying a rooftop bar, or on a boat cruise, these sunsets are some of the most iconic in Florida.
The sky often bursts with stunning hues of pink, orange, and purple, making it a perfect way to wind down your day. Head to Pier 60 for a sunset celebration, or just relax by the water for a view you won’t forget!
16. Take a Day Trip
If you’re up for an adventure, there are plenty of fantastic day trips from Clearwater Beach! One of my favorites is Weeki Wachee Springs, where you can experience crystal-clear waters and maybe even spot some manatees. Book one of these awesome clear kayaks for your trip!
Closer to home, St. Pete Beach offers a relaxed vibe, or head over to downtown St. Pete for art, dining, and waterfront views. Don’t forget Dunedin, just a short drive (or trolley ride) away, with its charming cafes, restaurants, and the stunning Honeymoon Island State Park. Seriously, there’s no shortage of cool spots to explore!
Getting Around Clearwater Beach
Getting around Clearwater Beach is a breeze! It’s super walkable, so you can easily stroll to restaurants, shops, and the beach. For a fun twist, hop on the Jolley Trolley (cash only, small fare) to get around the area. If you’re planning a day trip or exploring further, renting a car is a great option for flexibility and convenience!
