9 Fun Things to Do for Your Weekend in Savannah
1. Rent Bikes
Savannah is like stepping into a storybook, and what better way to explore its charming streets than on two wheels? Renting bikes is the best way to get around for your weekend in Savannah! It lets you soak up the city’s beauty while covering more ground than on foot all while enjoying historic buildings, cobblestone lanes, and those famous leafy oak trees creating a dreamy backdrop for your ride.
Don’t miss the Savannah Historic District and River Street—two of the most iconic spots to pedal through!
2. Cathedral Basilica St. John
The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist is an absolute stunner! Built in 1876, it’s not just one of the oldest Catholic churches in the U.S.—it’s also one of the most breathtaking. Whether you’re into history, architecture, or simply gorgeous views, this Neo-Gothic gem is a must-see.
Make sure to step inside to marvel at the intricate stained glass windows and the awe-inspiring interior—it’s like stepping into another era.
3. City Market
A weekend in Savannah wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the City Market! This charming open-air market spans four blocks and is packed with shopping, dining, and art galore—all housed in beautifully restored warehouses right in the heart of downtown.
Whether you’re looking to grab a bite, pick up unique souvenirs, or just enjoy a walk through the vibrant scene, City Market is a must-visit!
4. Forsythe Park
Named after Georgia’s 33rd Governor, Forsyth Park is a must-see 30-acre public park nestled right in the heart of Savannah. The centerpiece is the iconic Forsyth Fountain, a stunning feature surrounded by lush greenery and towering trees.
Whether you’re wandering the park’s beautiful pathways, having a picnic on the expansive lawns, or checking out the kids’ playgrounds, there’s something for everyone here. If you can, visit on a Saturday to catch the Farmers Market!
5. Tybee Lighthouse
Tybee Island Lighthouse is a short drive from Savannah, and worth a visit if you can squeeze it into your weekend in Savannah! Standing 90 feet tall, it’s Georgia’s oldest and tallest lighthouse, guiding sailors since 1736.
Climb to the top for breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline and Savannah River, and take a step back in time as you learn about the area’s rich history. You might even recognize the lighthouse from Forrest Gump and The Longest Yard!
Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for kids (ages 6-17), and it’s open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM (except Tuesdays and major holidays). It’s the perfect spot to soak in both history and incredible views!
6. Check Out the Bar Scene
Savannah’s bar scene is full of neat spots and its open-container policy makes it easy to sip and stroll while hopping between them. Whether you’re into rooftop views, speakeasy vibes, or arcade games, there’s something on this list for you to check out!

7. Visit a Local Coffee Shop (or 3)
Savannah is packed with adorable coffee spots, and you’ll have no trouble finding the perfect place to grab your daily fix! I grabbed a coffee from Mirabelle, which is conveniently across from the stunning Cathedral Basilica of St. John—perfect for a little sightseeing after your sip.
Foxy Loxy, a combo coffee shop, bakery, and Tex-Mex cantina, and Gallery Espresso, the oldest coffee shop in Savannah, are two other popular coffee shops in Savannah worth a visit.
8. Indulge in Southern Cuisine
The city is brimming with delicious, comforting dishes that highlight the very best of Southern cooking. From creamy shrimp and grits to crispy fried chicken, you won’t be disappointed by the variety of mouth-watering options.
Start your day with a hearty breakfast at local favorites like B. Matthews, or treat yourself to a refined dinner at one of Savannah’s top-tier restaurants. And don’t forget to wash it all down with a cold glass of sweet tea—it’s practically a Savannah rite of passage! For dessert, make sure you save room for the famous peach cobbler. I had a slice from Crystal Beer Parlor, and it was pure bliss.
If there’s one place you can’t miss, it’s the Olde Pink House. This historic gem is one of the best and most delicious things to do in Savannah! Located in a stunning 18th-century building with its signature pink stucco exterior, the Olde Pink House offers a warm, inviting atmosphere and dishes made from the finest Southern ingredients. It’s the kind of place that will leave you craving more, long after your trip is over!
