If you’re looking for a charming and historical weekend getaway, a weekend in St. Augustine is definitely a great option to consider! Located on the East Coast of Florida, St. Augustine is known for its cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, and rich history—it’s actually the oldest city in the U.S.!

Whether you’re strolling down historic streets, exploring ancient forts, or enjoying the coastal views, St. Augustine has this perfect mix of laid-back vibes and unique attractions that make it such a fun place to explore in just a couple of days. Trust me, it’s become one of my favorite weekend getaways from Tampa!

1. Anastasia State Park

Anastasia State Park is just a short drive from downtown St. Augustine. It’s a peaceful park that features four miles of pristine beachfront, nature trails, and even picnic areas where you can kick back.

It’s the perfect place for activities like swimming, kayaking, and fishing. If you’re into shelling, you’ll love this place—sand dollars and shark teeth are often found along the shore!

A heads-up, though: certain areas have bobcats and rattlesnakes, so make sure to keep your distance. The park is open from 8 AM to sunset, and it’s just $8 per vehicle to get in.

2. St. Augustine Beach

If you want a more classic beach experience, St. Augustine Beach is where you want to be! This wide, sandy stretch is a local favorite for good reason. It’s perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and even trying your hand at surfing.

Plus, you can find beach volleyball if you’re up for a little competition. When you’re ready to take a break, there are tons of nearby restaurants and bars for a bite or a drink.

3. St. Augustine Lighthouse

The St. Augustine Lighthouse is definitely one of those spots you don’t want to miss during your weekend in St. Augustine! Not only can you climb the 219 steps to the top for some seriously stunning views of the coastline, but the lighthouse itself is steeped in history.

The museum inside is filled with fascinating exhibits about the lighthouse’s past and its role in guiding ships safely to shore. Adult admission is $14.95.

4. Old Town

If you’re into charming streets and a bit of history, check out Old Town. Wandering through these cobblestone streets feels like stepping back in time—it’s full of cute shops, art galleries, and historical landmarks.

Highlights include the Colonial Quarter, where you can step back in time to experience life in 18th-century St. Augustine, and the Oldest Wooden School House, which is exactly what it sounds like – the oldest wooden school house in America!

5. Castillo de San Marcos

You can’t spend a weekend in St. Augustine without seeing Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest masonry fort in the U.S.! The history here is unreal—this fort has stood since the 1600s and has seen everything from pirate attacks to military battles.

You can walk along the outer walls, check out the cannons, and even catch a reenactment of the fort’s history. If you love a mix of history and beautiful views, this is definitely a must-do spot on your weekend itinerary.

The park is open 7 days a week starting at 9 AM and the last admission is at 5 PM. If you have an America the Beautiful Pass park entry is free for you plus three others, otherwise it is $15 per person!

6. San Sebastian Winery

If you’re a wine lover (or just like a good time), you have to stop by the San Sebastian Winery. It’s the second-largest winery in Florida, and it’s right in the heart of downtown St. Augustine. You can enjoy a free wine tasting and take a self-guided tour to learn about how they make their wines from locally grown grapes.

Their reserve cabernet sauvignon was so good, we left with a bottle! And, if you’re there on a Thursday-Sunday, head up to The Cellar Upstairs wine and jazz bar. It’s the perfect spot for enjoying a glass (or two) while listening to live jazz, plus they’ve got some tasty shareable bites that pair perfectly with the wine.

7. Fiesta Falls Miniature Golf

If you want to break up your sightseeing with a little fun, check out Fiesta Falls Miniature Golf! It’s the perfect way to get in a little friendly competition with your group!

This colorful, tropical-themed course features 18 holes of challenging and entertaining putt-putt, as well as waterfalls, caves, and other fun obstacles. A fun way to spend an afternoon (or evening)!

8. Old Town Trolley

For a chill way to see the sights, hop on the Old Town Trolley. This 23-stop hop-on, hop-off tour takes you to all of the major attractions in St. Augustine, including the Castillo de San Marcos, the St. Augustine Lighthouse, and the Fountain of Youth. Perfect for when you want to get the lay of the land without walking everywhere!

For a fun and scenic way to see St. Augustine, hop on a boat tour! One of the best ways to enjoy the city is with a sunset water tour. You’ll cruise around downtown, check out the iconic Bridge of Lions, Castillo de San Marcos, and even the St. Augustine Lighthouse. The tour lasts about an hour and is the perfect way to relax after a busy day of sightseeing.

Did you know St. Augustine is home to the legendary Fountain of Youth? According to legend, a sip from the fountain can rejuvenate you—who needs Botox, right?

Aside from the fountain, you can explore Timucuan village and burial grounds, check out the Discovery Globe planetarium, or just enjoy the park’s natural beauty. Peacocks roam the area, adding to the charm! It’s open daily from 9 AM – 6 PM, with adult tickets costing $19.95.

12. Villa Zorayda Museum

If you’re into exotic vibes and quirky history, the Villa Zorayda Museum is one of the more unique things to do for your weekend in St. Augustine! Built in 1883, this mansion was inspired by Spain’s Alhambra Palace.

Inside, you’ll find an eclectic collection of art and artifacts from around the world—like an Egyptian rug made from cat hair (yes, you read that right). It’s said that when the rug was cleaned, a dead cat mysteriously showed up at the museum the next day! Take the self-guided audio tour to dive deeper into the stories behind this fascinating place. At the Pirate & Treasure Museum you’ll get a close look at pirate history, with artifacts from infamous pirates like Blackbeard and Captain Kidd. See real treasure from shipwrecks, including gold coins, silver jewelry, and even a treasure chest!

Don’t miss the Blackbeard’s Treasure Hunt—it’s like a scavenger hunt with a pirate twist! This is one of the best family-friendly activities in St. Augustine. Open daily with tickets at $18.99 for adults and $9.99 for kids.

14. St. George Street

We loved our visit to the St. Augustine Distillery! They make small-batch vodka, gin, and whiskey using local ingredients, and they even offer free tours where you can learn about the distillation process (plus, a little sampling never hurt anyone!).

Beyond just making delicious spirits, they’re all about sustainability and giving back, using renewable energy and supporting local causes through their “Spirits with a Cause” program. Be sure to grab a bottle of your favorite—trust me, you’ll want to take home a little piece of St. Augustine (I couldn’t resist the datil bloody mary mix!).

16. St. Augustine Alligator Farm

St. Augustine Alligator Farm gives you a little insight to Florida’s wild side! This 125-year-old spot is home to tons of alligators and other cool creatures. You can catch shows, learn about these reptiles, and even take a zip line ride above their habitats for a killer view!

They also have fun hands-on experiences—ever wanted to feed an alligator or hold a baby one? Now’s your chance! The farm hosts shows and feedings, where you can learn more about these fascinating creatures. Did you know that alligators only eat around 90 pounds a year? That’s equal to humans eating about one sandwich a week!

The farm is open daily, and tickets are $33.99 for adults and $18.99 for kids. It’s an unforgettable way to mix up your weekend in St. Augustine with a little thrill!

17. Lightner Museum

The Lightner Museum is housed in the former Hotel Alcazar, a stunning 1888 building by Henry Flagler, the museum is a journey back to the Gilded Age.

As you wander through, you’ll find everything from Tiffany glass to fine art and even musical instruments! The Alcazar Hotel was the first hotel in the United States to have a fully functional in-ground pool, which was considered a luxurious amenity at the time. Today, the pool serves as a centerpiece of the museum, and you can actually enjoy lunch there. Admission is $17, and it’s open seven days a week.

18. Whetstone Chocolate Factory

Calling all chocolate lovers—don’t leave St. Augustine without checking out the Whetstone Chocolate Factory! With just five employees using tools over 100 years old, they make artisanal chocolate that’s out of this world!

The $10.95 adult tour ($8.45 for children) is totally worth it, and you get to sample a bunch of their delicious creations. If you’re in town and don’t have time for the tour, be sure to grab a treat at one of their locations!

19. Ravine Gardens State Park

For a little nature break, head to Ravine Gardens State Park, just a short drive from St. Augustine. The park’s hiking trails are surrounded by lush gardens, and you can cross a suspension bridge with jaw-dropping views. The park is just $5 per vehicle, and if you’re driving from the West Coast of Florida, it’s a perfect pit stop on your way into St. Augustine!

The park also has a picnic area, playground, and a seasonal display of azaleas that is truly breathtaking.

There are so many great coffee shops in St. Augustine worth checking out! A few of our favorites from our weekend in St. Augustine were:

  • Sweetwater Coffee Bar & Gallery— A cozy spot with incredible coffee and yummy bagel sandwiches. Don’t miss the cloud latte with cinnamon—it’s dreamy!
  • The Kookaburra— Amazing coffee and delicious baked goods. I loved the honey badger latte—it’s honey, cinnamon, and vanilla in one!
  • City Perks Coffee— Perfect for a chill morning with excellent coffee and tasty bagels and sandwiches. It’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a hot cup!

21. Check Out Some of St. Augustine’s Quirky Bars

If you’re looking for a bar with personality, St. Augustine has some seriously fun spots to check out!

Odd Birds is one of those places where you can just tell the bartenders know their stuff. The vibe is laid-back but playful, and they’ll whip up something amazing based on what you like. No boring drinks here—just creative, well-crafted cocktails in a cozy, eclectic setting.

Then there’s The Tipsy Duck, which is basically a dream come true for anyone who loves a good theme. This place is full of rubber duckycore—yes, that’s a thing now! Bathtub seats? Check. Adorable duck-themed drinks? Absolutely. We tried their signature Tipsy Duck, which comes in a tiny bathtub (because of course it does), and the Fizzy Duck, which was just as fun as it sounds!

1. Osprey Tacos

Osprey Tacos is a laid-back taco spot that serves up some seriously delicious creations. They’ve got everything from pork and chicken to fish and veggie options, but the Cuban taco stole my heart. All the classic Cuban sandwich flavors—yes, even the pickles—wrapped up in a taco? Genius.

It’s the perfect stop whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or just need an excuse to eat more tacos (which, let’s be real, is always a good idea).

2. St. Augustine Fish Camp

Fresh seafood, waterfront views, and a cozy atmosphereSt. Augustine Fish Camp is one of those spots that just hits. Their menu is all about fresh, locally caught fish, and since it changes with the season, you know you’re getting the good stuff.

We tried the halibut over grits, and it was incredible. And don’t even think about skipping the hushpuppies—at only $4, they’re an absolute steal. If you can time it right, go for sunset. The view makes the meal even better!

3. The Conch House

The Conch House brings all the island vibes, and I’m so here for it. The menu is full of Caribbean-inspired dishes, from fresh seafood to tacos, but the real star? The little dining nests over the water!

It’s such a fun and unique way to enjoy a meal during your weekend in St. Augustine!.

4. River and Fort

For dinner with a view, River and Fort is where you want to be. The rooftop overlooking the river and fort? Perfection. But the food holds its own too—the sticky ribs and scallops were standout dishes, and the cocktails were really good too.

The whole place has a modern, upscale feel while still being cozy, making it a great spot whether you’re celebrating something special or just treating yourself to a nice night out.

5. The Ice Plant

The Ice Plant is where craft cocktails and cool, industrial vibes come together in the best way. The bartenders here know their stuff, whipping up some of the best cocktails in town, and the whole place has a vintage feel with exposed brick and rustic decor.

And let’s talk about the pimento cheese—even if you think you’re not a pimento cheese person, this one might just change your mind. Whether you’re here for the drinks, the food, or just the cool atmosphere, this is one St. Augustine spot you don’t want to skip.
